Vietnam, Ireland welcome to promote innovation

(MPI) - Vietnam and Ireland welcomed the potential for cooperation in promoting innovation, digital transformation, climate change adaptation, high-quality human resources development, and other areas of mutual interest.

These statement were on the joint statement on strengthening Vietnam-Ireland bilateral partnership, which were issued on the occasion of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam's state visit to Ireland from October 1-3.

General Secretary and President To Lam and Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris updated each other about the recent situation of each country, discussed measures to further advance bilateral relations, and exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.

The two leaders acknowledged that the State visit is an important milestone after nearly 30 years of diplomatic relations, and affirmed the importance of further strengthening Vietnam-Ireland relations.

They agreed to cooperate for the prosperity and inclusive development of both countries, and for peace, cooperation and development globally, in accordance with the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.

Prime Minister Simon Harris welcomed the announcement by General Secretary and President To Lam that Vietnam plans to open an Embassy in Ireland. The two leaders agreed that the embassy will play an important role in deepening the fine friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Ireland.

The leaders welcomed the important and growing trade partnership between Vietnam and Ireland. They reaffirmed the importance of full implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and discussed the significance of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), expressing their belief that these two agreements will facilitate trade and investment between the two countries.

Both sides spoke highly of Irish investments in Vietnam, and acknowledged several business agreements signed between the two countries' enterprises during the visit by General Secretary and President To Lam.

General Secretary and President To Lam thanked the Irish Government for its development cooperation programme, which has helped the country achieve many development goals ahead of schedule.

The Irish Prime Minister affirmed Ireland will provide continued assistance for Vietnam in climate change adaptation, livelihood creation, settlement of the consequences of landmines and unexploded ordnance, nutrition, higher education and governance.

Vietnam highly valued Ireland's support and technical assistance in the agriculture sector.

Both sides welcomed the potential for cooperation in promoting innovation, digital transformation, climate change adaptation, the development of high-quality human resources, and other areas of mutual interest.

The sides committed to enhancing coordination and mutual support at regional and international forums, especially the United Nations and the ASEAN-EU framework. They expressed support for a united, strong and prosperous ASEAN Community and its central role in the regional architecture and for strengthening the ASEAN-EU strategic partnership./.
