Creative Greensboro and Greensboro Mutual Aid Launch Community Art Project

Creative Greensboro and Greensboro Mutual Aid (GMA) have partnered to launch Community Cornerstone: Honoring East White Oak Community Center. This Neighborhood Arts initiative will honor the historic East White Oak Community Center, which is a National Register of Historic Places site.

The project will bring new public art to the East White Oak Community Center, Peeler Recreation Center, and Bywood Park. Guilford County-based artists are invited to apply by 5 pm on Tuesday, March 31.

Greensboro Mutual Aid will host a welcome and information session from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday, March 7, at the historic East White Community Center for interested applicants.

The project invites Guilford County-based artists to create an indoor mural at Peeler Recreation Center highlighting the history of the East White Oak Community Center, design educational and wayfinding signage with a Little Free Library at East White Oak, and paint artwork on the basketball backboards at Bywoods Park. Additional information about the artist call is available online.

The initiative is funded through Creative Greensboro's Neighborhood Arts program. In 2025, the City awarded two $15,000 grants to community-based arts organizations to support original neighborhood-based projects. GMA is one of the two grant recipients, receiving funding to lead the planning, design, and installation of an outdoor visual arts project.
