Monday, October 20 is the last day for voter registration in advance of the November 4, 2025, Statewide Special Election. Between October 21 and the end of Election Day, voters will need to register in person at the Elections Office or at a polling place.

The close of regular registration for the November 4, 2025, Statewide Special Election is coming up on Monday, October 20. Voters who register (or update their registration) by that date can do so online at RegisterToVote.ca.gov and receive a Vote-by-Mail ballot in advance of the election. If a voter is mailing in a registration card, it must be postmarked by October 20.

Conditional Voter Registration -- also known as late registration -- allows eligible citizens to register and vote on the same day. The 14-day Conditional Registration period runs from October 21 through Election Day, and it is only available in person at the Elections Office in SLO (and at the satellite office in Atascadero beginning October 27). Voters can also register and vote conditionally at a polling location between 7am and 8pm on Election Day.

All registered voters will have the option to vote in person at the polls on November 4 if they prefer. Because this special election will feature 45 polling locations countywide (versus 70 in November 2024), the Elections Office encourages voters to confirm their assigned polling location before heading out to vote. This can be done by referencing the stub at the top of their Vote-by-Mail ballot or by visiting MyVoterStatus.sos.ca.gov.

Voters are encouraged to bring their Vote-by-Mail ballot to the polls to exchange for a precinct ballot for the most efficient in-person voting experience. If they do not bring their Vote-by-Mail ballot, that's fine; in that case, a poll worker will call the Elections Office to confirm that the voter's Vote-by-Mail ballot has not already been received before issuing them a precinct ballot.
