Gunfire report downgraded to fireworks after police response

Menlo Park, Calif. - On Dec. 17, 2025, at about 3:43 pm, Menlo Park Police dispatch received a call reporting a person possibly armed with a gun in the area of Valparaiso Av and Hallmark Cir, and a report of possible shots fired. Officers immediately responded to the area, and did not locate anyone matching the description provided. Upon further clarification, the caller stated the individual had actually been seen earlier in the day at 12:30 p.m. and was uncertain whether the person was carrying a firearm.

During the same time frame, when the dispatch call was received, there were reports of fireworks in the area. Out of an abundance of caution and with public safety as the highest priority, the department requested assistance from outside agencies. Additional officers and a drone unit were deployed to conduct a thorough search of the surrounding area.

Following the coordinated response, the area has been declared all clear. No threats to public safety were identified.
