NEH Announces High School Classical Curriculum Chairman's Grant Opportunity

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is pleased to announce a special funding opportunity to strengthen the teaching of classical humanities curriculum in American high schools. The agency has issued a call for proposals for High School Classical Curriculum Chairman's Grants, a new initiative to enhance existing programs, resources, or courses in the fields of Classics, Great Books, and Western Civilization. NEH will award approximately 30 grants of up to $30,000 each through this program.

"NEH's investment in classical education is an investment in the next generation of thoughtful, informed, and engaged citizens," said NEH Chairman Michael McDonald. "The programs supported by this special opportunity will give students a grounding in the major ideas, events, and books that have shaped American society, and will equip them with the knowledge to address contemporary challenges."

High School Classical Curriculum Chairman's Grants will support humanities curriculum development and educational programs focused on enhancing the capacity to teach Classics, Great Books, and/or Western Civilization. Eligible proposals might include revising current or developing new courses in the above topics; developing materials to support teaching in these interest areas, such as books, curated student resources, or teaching curriculum guides; faculty development, including collaboration with local cultural institutions, neighboring schools or districts, and/or nearby institutions of higher education.

Applicants must currently teach courses in one of the following interest areas: Classics, Great Books, and/or Western Civilization. The application deadline for High School Classical Curriculum Chairman's Grants is February 10, 2027. Interested applicants should consult the NEH website for additional information.
