After the TN and OK State of the State Addresses, Democrats Put Governors Bill Lee and Kevin Stitt on Blast for Failing Working Families Arrow

After Tennessee Governor Bill Lee's and Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt's State of the State addresses, Democrats called out their failed leadership, underscoring how they have raised costs on working families and rolled back health care access.

The bottom line: While Governors Lee and Stitt rubber-stamp Donald Trump's disastrous, billionaire-first agenda that puts working families last, Democrats are fighting to lower costs, protect health care, and build a brighter future for every family.

Take a look at some of the coverage below:

In Oklahoma:

KOKI: "Democrats say the Governor did not address any issues that are actually important to the people of Oklahoma, like addressing the higher cost of living. Democrats said the governor should have put forward a plan to help Oklahomans with the issues they face daily. 'Oklahomans are having more of a difficulty keeping up with everyday living expenses all throughout the interim… home insurance, health care, utility prices that continue to go up, and there is no mention of lowering costs in the governor's State of the State speech.'"

"The party said they had many concerns following Stitt's speech, specifically how he did not address the cost of living in Oklahoma, ignored mental health topics, and didn't focus on funding for Oklahoma public schools or on the failing relationships with tribal nations.

"Senator Carri Hicks said her concern with Governor Stitt's statement that 'Oklahoma is stronger than ever' is who is it stronger for?…

"Similar to Democratic Senate members, the Oklahoma House Democratic Caucus spoke on their takeaways, and Representative Cyndi Munson said Governor Stitt is 'disconnected' from what everyday people are going through.

"'We are currently ranked 50th in the country for quality of public education. We rank 47th in health care outcomes, and nearly 50% of working families are working two jobs or three jobs and cannot afford basic life necessities for their families. We heard nothing about improving these statistics from the governor today,' Munson said."

In Tennessee:

Memphis Flyer: Democrats Set Economic Agenda Ahead of Gov.'s State of The State

[Memphis Flyer Staff, 1/30/26]

"'Before the governor steps to the podium, I want to talk about the real state of our state - not from a spreadsheet or a press release, but from kitchen tables across Tennessee,' Akbari said in the video. 'Kitchen tables like yours and mine.'

"She acknowledged that several families in the state are in a repetitive cycle of making ends meet. With housing and grocery costs skyrocketing, many Tennesseans can't afford the basic cost of living…

"Akbari urged the state to end the cycle and focus on relief and stability for families. She stated that Democrats plan to do so by forging a path with no grocery tax, expanded health coverage, affordable childcare and early education, increased minimum wage, and investment in public schools, infrastructure, and thriving business."
