Larson Congratulates Bette Marafino of West Hartford on the Repeal of WEP and GPO

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) congratulated his constituent, Bette Marafino of West Hartford, who led the National WEP/GPO Repeal Task Force, after she introduced President Biden to sign the repeal of WEP/GPO into law.

"Social Security beneficiaries in Connecticut and across the country are better off thanks to Bette's advocacy and leadership on Social Security," said Larson. "Bette is not only a constituent but a dear friend, and I am glad to see her recognized for her hard work. She has led a coalition of retired teachers, firefighters, police officers, and municipal employees for years, and thanks to her efforts, nearly 3 million Americans will see a boost in their Social Security benefits with the repeal of the unfair WEP and GPO. I will continue to work with her and the Connecticut Chapter of the Alliance for Retired Americans to protect Social Security from cuts and enhance benefits for all 70 million Americans who rely on this program to make ends meet."
