VAL Art Talk to feature sculptor Ken Womack

The Visual Art League of Lewisville presents Art Talk with sculptor Ken Womack, on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 7 p.m., at Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.

Womack will recap judging the Play exhibition, the work, and his experience. He also will be speaking on his year-long experience leading up to his first solo museum show, Giant, at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland. He will discuss planning, process, inspiration, and all the things he has learned as a result.

Womack is a Dallas-based sculptor and the son of a bull rider and a ballerina whose largescale mixed-media works reconstruct the objects of American pop culture at a scale equal to the space they

occupy in our lives. Working in plywood, cardboard, neon, LED, and mixed media - including recycled and repurposed materials - he builds Pop-Tarts, Lone Star cans, mix tapes, boomboxes, cigars, and T-bone steaks into oversized monuments, adding lights, motion, and reflective surfaces because that's how these objects actually live in the world.

The Grand is Lewisville's home for the arts. It presents a variety of regional and national touring performers, art exhibits, and classes, while also giving the many arts groups in the greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works. Its multiple performance spaces play host to a variety of events including live music, theater, dance performances, comedy shows, and more. The center features the 294-seat Huffines Performance Hall, black box theater, recital hall, art gallery, and courtyard.

To reach The Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. Please be aware that there is heavy road construction at the Main Street interchange with I-35E that will cause delays.

For details about upcoming events, or rental information for the facility, please visit LewisvilleGrand.com or call 972.219.8446.

This event is consistent with recommendations in the "Old Town" and "Identity, Place, and Communications" Big Moves of the Lewisville 2025 vision plan. The plan can be viewed at cityoflewisville.com/Lewisville2025.
