UPDATE: Victim in North Portland Homicide Identified

The man shot and killed in North Portland on November 2, 2025, has been identified as 49-year-old Robert Lee Mathis Jr. His family has been notified of his death. They are requesting privacy at this time, but they did provide a photo for public release.

The Medical Examiner determined the victim died of homicide by gunshot wound.

Man Deceased After Shooting In North Portland

A Man has been shot and killed in North Portland.

On Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 9:55 p.m., officers from the North Precinct responded to the 9900 block of North Whitaker Road on reports of a shooting with a victim. When officers arrived at the location, they found a male victim and attempted to give him first aid until paramedics arrived. Despite officer's efforts, the victim died at the scene.

Portland Police Bureau Homicide detectives have responded to the scene to investigate. If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to please send an email to[email protected]or call 503-823-0479. Please reference case number 25-301509.

During the investigation, North Whitaker Road will be closed between North Victory Boulevard and North Hayden Meadows Drive.

The identity of the victim will be released after the Medical Examiner has confirmed the cause of death and after family members have been notified. The PIO is not responding to the scene. More information will be released when appropriate.
