On 25 September 2025, Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen decided on the establishment of three fixed-term professorships at the National Defence University in Finland. The costs of these positions will be covered using donated funds.
The donors have directed their donations to support research in the following three fields: the application of technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and geopolitics and geoeconomics. Two of the donations come from private persons and one from a foundation.
"These new professorships will make it possible to produce research data in new, very important and topical fields. The professorships will help develop military capabilities, support decision-making and produce new experts for the needs of the Finnish Defence Forces. I am delighted that the donors have decided to support defence research in this time of turmoil in security policy," says Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen.
