TYPE OF INCIDENT: El Cajon Police Warn Against Reckless Celebrations

DATE OF INCIDENT: 3/31/2026 - 4/1/2026

LOCATION OF INCIDENT: El Cajon, CA

The El Cajon Police Department recognizes the enthusiasm and pride that come with sporting events and community celebrations. However, recent incidents involving large crowds blocking major intersections and engaging in dangerous driving behavior are unacceptable and pose significant risks to public safety.

Over the past two evenings, gatherings associated with celebratory events have resulted in the shutdown of roadways, disrupting traffic and endangering motorists, pedestrians, and participants. Enforcement action was taken last night when a driver was observed operating a vehicle recklessly. The individual was arrested, and the vehicle was impounded.

The El Cajon Police Department wants to make it clear: celebratory or not, blocking roadways and engaging in hazardous activities such as reckless driving will not be tolerated. These actions compromise the safety and freedom of others who rely on our streets for lawful travel.

We remain committed to maintaining public safety and will continue to enforce applicable laws when necessary. We ask all community members to celebrate responsibly and respectfully.

We appreciate the public's cooperation in keeping our community safe.
