Council Releases Evidence Demonstrating How Customers Get The Most Value By Choosing U.S. Corn

This week, the U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC) published a factsheet presenting evidence-based data on U.S. corn's performance advantages in productivity, processing and nutritional quality that translates into more reliable supply and stronger returns for international customers.

"As the world's largest corn exporter, the U.S. is on track to export more than 86 million metric tons (3.4 billion bushels) of corn this year," said Mark Sevier, USGBC's manager of global strategies and trade.

"U.S. corn doesn't just deliver steady supply, it's produced sustainably and to a consistently higher quality standard across the starch, feed and ethanol industries. That's what allows the U.S. to meet the needs of international customers, and the transparency the Council provides through its research and reporting gives buyers the data to see that difference for themselves."

The factsheet shows that U.S. corn yields are 83 percent higher than other major corn-producing countries, while U.S production creates 50 percent lower greenhouse gas emissions when compared with major global corn-producing countries. The Council's Corn Sustainability Assurances Protocol (CSAP) highlights the work U.S. farmers do as stewards of the land and anchors the baseline assurances linked to shipments of U.S. corn, which reduce supply chain risk for international buyers.

The advantages extend into processing, as U.S. corn steeps in half the time of other origins, yielding two to four percent greater starch extractability and one percent higher ethanol yield. For an average-sized wet milling facility, every one percent increase in starch extractability translates to roughly $1 million in additional value, meaning U.S. corn's advantage over other origins could be worth $2-4 million annually to a single facility.

For livestock producers, U.S. corn's more digestible starch content drives a feed conversion performance rate of 1.385, reflecting more efficient nutrient intake than competing origins and creating savings that the Council estimates at $8,000 to $161,000 annually for broiler operations, depending on scale (60,000 to 1.2 million birds).

"U.S. corn helps end-users maximize value and strengthen their bottom lines in the feed, ethanol and starch industries, and the Council is ready to assist buyers at every step along the way," Sevier said.

"We also provide resources like our annual Corn Harvest Quality Report and Corn Export Cargo Quality Report, so importers have what they need to make informed decisions about how U.S. corn can improve their outputs."

The Council will spotlight these findings at Export Exchange 2026, the organization's flagship buyers-sellers conference, held in Seattle, Wash., Oct. 15-17 and through corn quality rollout events taking place in countries worldwide in early 2027.
