WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Senator Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.), a member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, voted on the Senate Floor to pass the Renewing Opportunity in the American Dream (ROAD) to Housing Act. The Senate voted 85-5 to pass the bill. Senator Alsobrooks issued the following statement after the vote:
"My parents married young, just 21 and 22. Within five years of their marriage, they were able to buy a modest home. Today, the average age of a first-time home buyer is closer to 40 years old. Passing ROAD to Housing is the first step for the generations that come after us to do better than we did, not worse. Homeownership is one of the clearest paths to building wealth. Because of that, I will keep doing everything in my power to make the dream of homeownership a reality for more Marylanders.
"In a town known for gridlock, the bipartisan, bicameral support for the ROAD to Housing Act is proof of our dire housing crisis. Wherever I go in my state, from Mountain Maryland to the Eastern Shore, and everywhere in between, I hear the same thing: housing costs too much. I've heard you, and I've fought for you.
"The ROAD to Housing Act expands the housing supply, reduces red tape, and makes homeownership more affordable. Today, I helped pass legislation that will allow hardworking Marylanders to not just live on the margins but to truly thrive."
Senator Alsobrooks specifically worked on and advocated for the following pieces of the package:
