Henderson Offers Amnesty to Homeowners During Building Safety Month

The City Promotes Building Safety by Waiving Penalty Fees for Unpermitted Residential Construction

HENDERSON, Nev. (May 5, 2026) - In recognition of Building Safety Month, the City of Henderson is waiving penalty fees throughout May for unpermitted residential building projects.

The amnesty program allows Henderson homeowners to pull permits without penalties on residential construction that may have been performed without proper permits. Henderson homeowners will be subject to pay standard fees for permits throughout the amnesty period.

The primary goal of the residential amnesty program is to encourage safety and ensure compliance of all non-permitted construction with adopted building codes as mandated by law.

The residential amnesty program includes, but is not limited to, the following types of construction projects:

  • Room additions
  • Electrical or plumbing work
  • Patio covers
  • Garage conversions
  • Block wall repairs, installations and replacements
  • Interior or exterior alterations
  • Water heater installation
  • Furnace or air conditioning replacement

The City of Henderson is committed to being an industry leader in creating safe and sustainable building practices and bringing awareness of building safety to its residents. Aligned with the International Code Council (ICC), the amnesty program reinforces the importance of modern, regularly-updated building codes to help residents and businesses understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures.

Henderson homeowners with questions about residential construction are encouraged to speak with a City of Henderson Development Services Center representative at 702-267-3620.
