On Tuesday, President Gitanas Nausėda received the letters of credence from Ambassador José Fernando Alves da Costa Pereira of the Portuguese Republic, Ambassador Peggy Frantzen of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and Ambassador Mohamed Mounir Loutfy of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
During his meeting with the Portuguese ambassador, the President underscored the steadily strengthening bilateral relations between Lithuania and Portugal, highlighting expanding economic cooperation and growing Portuguese investments in Lithuania. Gitanas Nausėda noted the potential for developing relations in the fields of defense industry, innovation, and tourism, and expressed gratitude to Portugal for its significant contribution to NATO's deterrence and defense measures in the Baltic region, as well as for its consistent support for Ukraine.
In the meeting with the ambassador of Luxembourg, the President emphasized the excellent bilateral cooperation, particularly in the area of security and defense, including Luxembourg's contribution to NATO's enhanced forward presence battlegroup in Lithuania. President Gitanas Nausėda also outlined the priorities of Lithuania's upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union, stressing the importance of EU enlargement and continued comprehensive support for Ukraine. The President highlighted growing economic cooperation and the considerable potential for developing partnerships in space technology, financial technology, start-ups, life sciences, and the defense industry.
When receiving the credentials from the ambassador of Egypt, the President expressed Lithuania's commitment to further strengthening political and economic bilateral relations. He welcomed the growing trade volume and the activities of Lithuanian information technology companies in Egypt. The President also welcomed the strengthening of the strategic partnership between the European Union and Egypt, Egypt's contribution to European energy security, to stabilizing the situation in the Middle East, and to defending the international rules-based order.
