Traffic Impacts Expected as Northeast Power Moves Transformer through Palmyra

HANNIBAL - Pending railway delivery schedules, September 22-24, Northeast Power will be conducting a transformer move from the BNSF Railroad Depot in Palmyra to their Palmyra 345 kV Substation, five miles northwest of Palmyra.

This transformer move will be done in three segments to allow for overhead utilities and logistics coordination, and will occur as follows:

  • September 22 (Segment 1): The load will move from the BNSF Railroad Depot in Palmyra to the Palmyra Veterinary Clinic and travel the following route: MO 168 to West Line to CR 266 to CR 279 to Route C and westbound MO 168 to the Palmyra Veterinary Clinic location.
  • September 23 (Segment 2): The load will continue westbound MO 168 from Palmyra Veterinary Clinic to CR 367. During this time, MO 168 will be closed in this section from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and traffic will be diverted over the signed detour route utilizing Route C and Route Z to reach their destinations.
  • September 24 (Segment 3): The convoy will move from the MO 168/CR 367 intersection and travel to the Palmyra Substation, located five miles northwest of Palmyra. The planned route beginning utilized will move the load over MO 168 to Route A to CR 320 to CR 333 to the substation.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid these areas whenever possible and utilize the signed detour over Route C and Route Z to reach their destinations. Northeast Power expects the following traffic impacts:

  • Slow-moving, escorted transport vehicles and crews walking alongside the transport
  • Temporary road closures, detours and slowed traffic along portions of the route
  • Utility crews temporarily lifting overhead lines in select locations
  • Brief service interruptions in limited areas as crews safely accommodate the transport

Northeast Power states, "Motorists should not attempt to pass the transport convoy and should follow all posted detours and instructions from law enforcement assisting with the move."
