Last month, the Westerville Division of Fire (WFD) and the Westerville Division of Police (WPD) hosted Safety City at Robert Frost Elementary (270 N. Spring St.) from June 2-13.
Following an appearance and presentation of the "Safety Bunch" puppet show, The Westerville Division of Fire (WFD) recently received a thoughtful thank-you message from Jason McQuown, a teacher at Alcott Elementary School following "The Safety Bunch" presentation at Safety City:
"Thank you, thank you! I can't tell you how grateful we all are for what you do for the community...but also what you do for Safety City. These kids loved the puppet show today, and I thank you for helping us make that happen. We also appreciated your engine and crew and their cameo. I know you have other stuff going on, but that short little appearance made these kids' day. Both AM and PM classes loved it, and the parent response is tremendous."
Mr. McQuown shared the following video and photos of Fire Inspector Jeffrey Lear in action, along with other WFD personnel interacting with program participants:

Safety City is designed to teach students entering Kindergarten about a variety of safety issues. Each participant learns basic rules of traffic/pedestrian safety, fire prevention, school bus safety, poison prevention, animal safety, gun safety, water safety, stranger awareness. and reporting emergencies. The highlight of the program is "Safety Town" which allows students an opportunity to practice their skills on miniature streets; complete with buildings, sidewalks, signs, and stoplights.
