Grant honored statewide for impact on student affairs profession

John Grant, associate vice president of Student Affairs at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) has been honored with the Annabelle E. Wolf Outstanding Service in College Student Personnel Award from the Wisconsin College Personnel Association.

The annual award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the college student personnel profession, both at their home institution and to the broader student personnel community.

"Throughout his career, John has exemplified creativity and innovation in student affairs practice," said NWTC Provost Jennifer Flatt. "His work has transformed student support structures at NWTC and influenced institutions nationwide."

In his 22 years with the College, Grant has served as a counselor, director of Student Support Services, and dean of Student Development before transitioning into his current role. He designed and built NWTC's first academic advising model, establishing a foundation that has served thousands of students for the past two decades. He has also been instrumental in implementing innovations to support student academic success, including the Starfish early alert system, predictive analytics tools, and holistic coaching.

As Student Affairs associate vice president, Grant is responsible for ensuring strategic alignment of student support services, student conduct, guided pathways, retention strategies, and other collegewide initiatives that directly influence student experience and outcomes. He is a member of the President's Extended Cabinet, advising the College president on strategy, policy, and campus-wide initiatives.

Grant's service extends far beyond NWTC. He serves as a part-time holistic student success coach for the national nonprofit organization Achieving the Dream, sharing his expertise to help other community colleges strengthen student support and institutional change efforts.

"I am absolutely honored to receive this WCPA award," said Grant. "To be recognized by your colleagues for the work you love to do is very rewarding. I hope to continue to impact students in new and creative ways at NWTC."

In addition to noting Grant's creative leadership and institutional impact, Flatt also recognized his "growth-minded and individualized approach to professional relationships."

"John's door is always open," said Flatt. "He has mentored countless staff and leaders at NWTC over the last two decades. He is always ready to help others grow."
