Food-At-Home Purchases by SNAP Households in 2023

Food-At-Home Purchases by SNAP Households in 2023

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) administrative data do not currently provide information on the foods acquired by program participants. This gap limits the ability to assess how SNAP benefits are used and to evaluate the program's impact on diet quality and health outcomes. The 2016 Foods Typically Purchased by SNAP Households report addressed this gap using 2011 point-of-sale data from a leading US grocery retailer, but more recent data are needed to understand current trends. The purpose of this study is to describe the foods and beverages purchased by SNAP households, by using the most current data available.
