San Mateo County ― Caltrans is continuing work on the State Route 1 Multi-asset Roadway Rehabilitation Project where crews are making improvements and updating many facilities to Americans with Disabilities (ADA) standards, including:
Caltrans will ensure access for pedestrians and cyclists during this phase of the project. Curb ramps will meet ADA standards, ensuring safe access while work is underway.
Curb Ramps
Curb ramps have been completed at Seymour, Grove, Poplar, Casa Del Mar, Beach and Wave.Crosswalks
Crosswalks will be restriped once pavement has been replaced at Seymour, Grove, Poplar, Filbert, Belleville, Grand, Kehoe Avenue, Frontage, Venice, Frenchman's Creek Road, Young, and Alto.
A detectable warning surface to alert pedestrians with visual impairments of hazardous, high-traffic, or grade-change areas will be constructed at the Naomi Partridge Trial.
Bus Stops
Bus stop locations are being updated with additional landing areas to meet bus stop design standards. Work has been completed at three locations: Spindrift, Medio (southbound), and Ruisseau Francais, and is ongoing at three more: Roosevelt, Kehoe, Medio (northbound) and Mirada.
Most curb ramp, crosswalk, and bus stop work is estimated to be complete by March 31. The work at signalized intersections will be completed later in the project.
Paving
In late March, paving work will begin in various locations throughout the project, requiring some lane closures.
Known as the SR-1 Multi-Asset Roadway Rehabilitation Project, the $46.7M project encompasses upgrading assets (such as pavement, guardrails, curbs, and crosswalks) that are nearing the end their service lives. Assets will be brought up to ADA standards, and Class II bike lanes will be added to both the north- and south-bound sides of the roadway. The project will continue through the summer of 2027.
