Join the Oceanside Public Library and Professor Garrett Chaffin-Quiray for a new movie series: Criminal Capers, which will present a trio of tense, tightly-wound tales where plans unravel and the desperation escalates. Professor Chaffin-Quiray, a Professor of Cinema Studies at Palomar Community College, will present each screening by exploring the artistic and sociological character of the films and lead a discussion afterward. Light refreshments will be provided.
The series will take place on Mondays, on July 7, August 4 and September 8, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., in the Civic Center Library Community Room, at 330 N. Coast Highway in Oceanside.
The films are as follows:
• Mission Impossible (1996) on July 7
• The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) on August 4
• Hell or High Water (2016) on September 8
Professor Garrett Chaffin-Quiray teaches Cinema Studies at Palomar Community College and has written two books: Cine-Me (2012) and Under the Tent-Pole: A Primer on Movies: Blockbusters, Oscar Winners, Alternatives, and You (2014).
