On November 21, during the IAEA November Board of Governors session, Permanent Representative of China to the International Atomic Energy Agency Ambassador Li Song stated China's position regarding Japan's "Three Non-Nuclear Principles" and related issues.
Li Song pointed out that the new Japanese government has made ambiguous and vague statements about the "Three Non-Nuclear Principles", even hinting at the possibility of abandoning them. Such developments fully expose a major negative shift in Japan's policy. If Japan intends to return to the old path of militarism, the international community will never allow it. Japan must be strictly constrained. We strongly urge Japan to abide by the "Three Non-Nuclear Principles" and its international non-proliferation obligations, and to provide the international community with a clear and unequivocal explanation. The Agency should continue to play an important role in strictly preventing nuclear weapons proliferation.
Li Song also expressed concerns regarding the Fukushima nuclear accident, the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water, and Japan's plutonium stockpile, urging Japan to address these issues in a highly responsible and fully transparent manner to eliminate potential safety risks.
