The City of Montgomery is moving forward with the Wares Ferry Road Bridge Replacement project, with the contractor now mobilizing on site and delivery of the new precast culvert expected soon.
The bridge, located approximately 900 feet north of Wares Ferry Road and McLemore Drive, has been closed since Dec. 18 due to structural damage caused by overweight vehicles. The closure remains in place to protect the public and allow crews to complete the work safely.
City teams have completed the necessary planning, awarded the construction contract and coordinated environmental and utility approvals. The new bridge will be constructed using a precast culvert, which is currently being fabricated. Once the structure arrives, work is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
The project remains ahead of schedule, and the City anticipates reopening the bridge at the beginning of summer.
Wares Ferry Road remains fully closed to traffic. Drivers should continue to use the posted detour, avoid the area and stay clear of construction activity for their safety and the safety of workers.
The City appreciates the public's patience as crews and contractors continue working to restore safe access as quickly as possible.
