HENRY COUNTY - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that weather permitting, work on Atkinson Road in Henry County will begin Monday, April 13. The work zone is from Illinois 92 to N. 1920th Street at the north Atkinson village limits and includes the ramps at the Interstate 80 Atkinson interchange.
Work will consist of patching and intermittent resurfacing of the 9-mile stretch of road and the ramps of the I-80 Atkinson interchange. There will be daily lane closures controlled by flaggers during the project, which is expected to wrap up by the end of May.
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zone areas, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation.
