U.S. SENATE - Senator Tim Sheehy today released the following statement applauding the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's passage of the No Tax Dollars for Terrorists Act:
"There is no justification for a dime of U.S. taxpayer money finding its way into the hands of terrorists who openly call for 'death to America.' I'm glad to see the Foreign Relations Committee advance the commonsense No Tax Dollars for Terrorists Act and will keep fighting to get it over the finish line."
The No Tax Dollars for Terrorists Act was introduced in the Senate in January of 2025 by Senators Sheehy, Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Tuberville (R-Ala.), and Daines (R-Mont.).
Background:
The No Tax Dollars for Terrorists Act makes clear it is the policy of the United States to oppose financial or material support to the Taliban by foreign governments and non-government organizations (NGOs). It also requires the State Department to develop and implement a strategy to oppose foreign countries providing support to the Taliban.
A 2025 SIGAR report found that since the Taliban took over in 2021, $10.72 billion has gone to Afghanistan with $3.83 billion of that coming directly from U.S. taxpayers. As much as 70 percent of this ended up in Taliban hands according to some estimations. While the Department of State canceled direct aid to Afghanistan in 2025, aid from foreign governments and non-government organizations, which receive U.S. taxpayer dollars, continues.
