On 24 February, Consul General Chen Shijie attended Chinese New Year Reception hosted by Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney (HKETO) and delivered a speech. Over 150 people, including Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Paul Goldsmith, Mayor of Auckland Wayne Brown, several New Zealand Members of Parliament, Director of HKETO Ricky Chong and representatives from across the consular district joined the event.
Consul General Chen extended festival greetings to the guests, reviewing China's development achievements and highlights of China New Zealand economic and trade cooperation of last year, looking ahead the development opportunities brought to countries around the world by the "15th Five-Year Plan" and the bright prospects of China's economy, emphasizing that Hong Kong will surely maintain long-term prosperity and stability under the "one country, two systems" policy and with the motherland's strong backing. The Chinese Consulate General in Auckland will continue to support Hong Kong expanding economic & trade cooperation, cultural exchange, and more engagements across broader sectors with New Zealand.
The guests raised their glasses to wish Hong Kong a brighter future and China New Zealand relations greater success.
