Launch of the European Legal Gateway Office in India 18 February 2026

The European Legal Gateway Office (LGO) in India was formally launched by External Affairs Minister of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar and the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy Henna Virkkunen on 18 February 2025. Ms. Susanne Raab, Director-General, International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), presented the LGO. ICMPD is the implementing partner for the EU for setting up of the LGO in New Delhi.

2. The LGO was announced during the State Visit of President of the European Council H.E. Mr. Antonio Costa and President of the European Commission H.E. Ursula von der Leyen to India on 27 January 2026. The EU LGO will be a one-stop operating hub in India to provide information, and to support the movement of professionals to the EU, starting with the Information Technology (ICT) sector, and may be extended to other areas in the future.

3. The LGO will assist students, researchers and professionals to understand opportunities, legal pathways and qualification frameworks across EU Member States. The LGO in India is aimed to build partnerships, facilitate stakeholder engagement with both Indian and EU stakeholders on the ground and implement a range of outreach and awareness-related activities in major ICT regional clusters across the country.
