Special Envoy Zhai Jun of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Visits Qatar

From June 15 to 16, 2026, Special Envoy Zhai Jun of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue visited Qatar and met with Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi. The two sides exchanged views on China-Qatar bilateral relations and the current situation in the Middle East.

Zhai Jun noted that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Qatar relations have continued to make progress. China has always approached and advanced China-Qatar relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective, and stands ready to work with Qatar to follow up on the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state and deepen and substantiate bilateral relations. China welcomes the agreement reached between the United States and Iran on the content of the first-phase memorandum of understanding (MoU), and appreciates the contribution made by Qatar and other countries to quelling the fighting and striving for peace. China hopes that all parties concerned will stay on the path of peace and resolve issues through dialogue and negotiation. China will continue to uphold the spirit of the four-point proposal put forward by President Xi Jinping on upholding and promoting peace and stability in the Middle East, enhance communication and coordination with regional countries including Qatar, and play a positive role in the early restoration of peace and tranquility in the Middle East and Gulf region.

Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi said that Qatar highly values its friendly relations with China, stands ready to deepen political mutual trust with China, enhance the alignment of development strategies, and maintain communication on major international and regional affairs. Qatar will continue to actively engage in mediation and encourage the parties concerned in the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict to consolidate the momentum of negotiations on the basis of the first-phase MoU to achieve comprehensive and lasting peace. Qatar appreciates China's efforts in cooling down the regional situation and stands ready to work with China to uphold and promote security and stability in the Middle East and Gulf region.
