Unwarranted Statements by the U.S. Government

The Brazilian government once again deplores and rejects statements made by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Brasília, which constitute a renewed, undue, and unacceptable interference in matters that are under the responsibility of Brazil´s Judicial Branch. Such statements are inconsistent with the 200-year relationship of respect and friendship between the two countries.

With regard to trade, Brazil has been negotiating tariff-related issues of mutual interest with U.S. authorities since March and remains willing to continue this dialogue in a way that benefits the economies, the productive sectors, and the peoples of both countries. The misguided politicization of this issue cannot be attributed to Brazil, a democratic nation whose sovereignty is not, and will never be, subject to negotiation.
