Human Service Centers change name to Behavioral Health Clinics expanding awareness of services and resources offered

North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) today announced that the state's regional human service centers have officially been renamed Behavioral Health Clinics as part of a statewide effort to better reflect the behavioral health services provided across North Dakota.

The name change was approved by the 2025 Legislature. While the name is new, the mission remains the same-to provide quality, accessible, and person-centered behavioral health care and support for individuals and families throughout the state.

The clinics offer a broad range of behavioral health services, including therapy, skills teaching and integration, case management, medication management, and substance use disorder treatment. Additionally, the clinics provide walk-in assessments Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as 24/7 crisis care, all delivered with a focus on accessibility, quality, and compassion.

"When people need help, knowing where to turn matters," said Pamela Sagness, HHS executive director of behavioral health. "This name change better reflects who we are and what we do-helping North Dakotans access behavioral health care and recovery support when they need it."

The updated name is being introduced through a phased rollout. State and regional teams are updating signage, forms, websites, and other materials to reflect the change while minimizing disruption for clients and partners. The transition will not affect access to services, clinic locations, or hours of operation.

North Dakota's eight behavioral health clinics serve individuals and families statewide through regional offices located in Bismarck, Devils Lake, Dickinson, Fargo, Grand Forks, Jamestown, Minot, and Williston, with additional outreach locations in Grafton, Rolla, Valley City, and Watford City. In the last biennium ending June 30, 2025, the network of regional behavioral health clinics provided services to more than 15,000 individuals and delivered over 30,000 crisis interventions to nearly 4,000 people.
