The University of Toledo Police Department is seeking community feedback as part of its effort to become accredited under the new Ohio Collaborative Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.
Established early last year, the state's voluntary accreditation program lays out 32 standards departments must meet or exceed, including bias-free policing, crisis intervention, use of force and vehicular pursuit policies, agency wellness, community engagement and hiring standards.
The UToledo Police Department was one of 10 agencies statewide selected for the initial program rollout.
As part of the accreditation process, the department is inviting feedback from the public regarding its compliance with Ohio Collaborative Law Enforcement Accreditation Program standards, engagement in the community, delivery of public safety services and overall candidacy for accredited status.
The intent of the accreditation process is to provide participating agencies with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence.
