Oakland University Dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science Louay M. Chamra has been named one of Crain's Detroit Business' 2026 Notable Leaders in Architecture, Engineering and Construction.

The annual recognition honors leaders making significant contributions to Southeast Michigan's architecture, engineering and construction industries through professional achievement, leadership and community impact.

Since 2017, Crain's Detroit Business has recognized more than 5,000 leaders across industries through its Notables program. Honorees are selected through a peer nomination and editorial review process.

Amy Thompson, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Oakland University, praised Chamra's leadership and contributions to the university.

"This was a highly competitive award process, and I cannot think of a more deserving leader to receive this prestigious award," Thompson said. "We are very lucky to have Louay at OU."

Chamra said he is honored by the recognition and grateful for the support of colleagues across the university.

"I am truly honored by this recognition and deeply grateful for the support and kind words," Chamra said. "It is a privilege to be part of OU and to work alongside such wonderful colleagues."

As dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science, Chamra has helped strengthen Oakland University's partnerships with industry while supporting student success, research growth and experiential learning opportunities in engineering and technology fields.
