President Trump threatened sanctions and tariffs on Russia if its leader, President Vladimir Putin, doesn't reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine, as the WSJ reports.

Trump shuts off access to asylum, plans to send 10,000 troops to border

President Donald Trump is preparing to send around 10,000 troops to the southern border, and Border Patrol agents have been directed to deny entry to asylum seekers if they "traveled through a country with a communicable disease," as The Washington Post reports.

Russian spy ship detected in UK waters

Britain on Wednesday warned that it faced a growing threat of aggression from Russia, asserting that a Russian spy ship had passed by the English coast for the second time in three months, in the latest incident that seemed designed to test British military capabilities, as the NYT reports.

Someone asked me yesterday to post The Band's "Up on Cripple Creek" to honor the passing of keyboardist Garth Hudson. I can never say no to that type of request! I was lucky enough to interview Hudson for New Orleans' OffBeat Magazine. Hudson was a kind, humble man, and a great storyteller. I loved talking with him about his craft-he told me that if he could get his left hand to play keyboards as well as his right hand, he would have it all figured out.
