On October 31, 2025, at approximately 11:52 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call for service regarding a disturbance in the 1400 block of North El Paso Street. When officers arrived, they found one adult male and two adult females who had all suffered stab wounds. They also contacted an additional male and a young child inside the residence.
The three individuals with stab wounds were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The male succumbed to his wounds at the hospital. The two females were both treated for serious, life-threatening injuries. The second male contacted, identified as 33-year-old Matthew Reginar, was also transported to a local hospital for minor injuries, and he was later transported to the Police Operations Center for further investigation. The young child was not injured.
After further follow-up investigation, Matthew Reginar was charged with Murder in the First Degree, two counts of Criminal Attempted Murder in the First Degree, two counts of Assault in the First Degree, and Child Abuse.
On November 3, 2025, the El Paso County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased male and identified him as 31-year-old Raymundo Medina-Cabrera. While the coroner's office will determine the cause and manner of death, this is being investigated as a homicide. A photo of Mr. Medina-Cabrera has been provided by his family.
This was the 29th homicide in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 36 homicides.
