State Health Plan Commends Duke Health As a Continued Partner for Members

Raleigh, N.C.

The State Health Plan (Plan) is applauding Duke Health's commitment to public servants across our state. By working with our team, Duke Health has found ways to lower costs for both the Plan and our members- which includes teachers, state employees and their families.

"To see this kind of dedication from a world class organization like Duke Health shows just how important our members, and their families, are," says Treasurer Brad Briner, who chairs the State Health Plan Board of Trustees. "The extensive network of doctors, facilities and expertise they bring to our members is just the type of partnership we have been looking for. We know we are pushing the boundaries in healthcare by asking organizations to reduce costs, but by working together we are strengthening the Plan, and giving our members best in class options for care. We want to thank Dr. David Zaas, chief executive officer of Duke Health, and his team for their leadership and steadfast commitment to North Carolina's public servants."

Duke Health will be an Access Provider for the State Health Plan beginning Jan. 1, 2027. With Duke's addition to the Access tier, state employees will have the same or better service next year at 2 of the 3 major hospital systems in the Triangle as they do this year.

Access Provider is a new designation for next year and these providers will maintain the same level of service next year, at the same cost as members are currently paying. In an era where healthcare costs continue to rise each year, this is a significant commitment by the providers.

The State Health Plan, a division of the Department of State Treasurer, provides health care coverage to nearly 750,000 teachers, state employees, retirees, current and former lawmakers, state university and community college personnel, and their dependents.
