Rep. John McGuire Votes for the SAVE Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative John McGuire (VA-05), voted for H.R. 22, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. This bill, authored by Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21), amends the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require proof of United States citizenship to register an individual to vote in elections for Federal office.

"Elections in America are for Americans, period," said Rep. John McGuire. "The SAVE Act delivers President Trump's promise to the American people to secure our electoral process, restore trust, and prevent election interference. I was proud to cosponsor and vote for the SAVE Act and protect the ballot box."

The SAVE Act:

  • Ensures that only citizens are registered to vote in elections for Federal office.
  • Demands proof of United States citizenship when registering to vote.
  • Requires a valid government-issued photo identification card issued by a Federal, State, or Tribal government showing that the applicant's place of birth was in the United States.
  • Rep. John McGuire cosponsored the SAVE Act.
