The walkout. The roar of the crowd. The feeling that one strike can change everything. EA SPORTS UFC 6 isn't just about recreating what happens inside the Octagon. It's about capturing the speed, danger, and unpredictability that define mixed martial arts.
With EA SPORTS UFC 6 launching worldwide on June 19, players are about to step into the most dynamic and authentic Octagon experience the franchise has ever delivered. From revamped striking and movement systems to groundbreaking Markerless Motion Capture technology, the team behind UFC 6 set out to recreate not just how the sport looks, but how it feels.
For players, that means faster striking, more realistic fighter movement, and a gameplay experience shaped directly by years of community feedback.
We spoke with Associate Producer Raman Bassi about the vision behind UFC 6, the innovations shaping this year's experience, and what excites the team most as players finally get their hands on the game.
Let's get into it!
Starting off, congratulations on the launch! I'd like to take a moment to recognize your incredible work, passion, and creativity in making the best possible game. Now that we're here, I wanted to ask: How are you feeling?
Launch day is always a mix of pride, excitement, and anticipation. Building a UFC game takes years of collaboration across gameplay, animation, engineering, art, audio, and our partners at UFC. Seeing all of that work finally reach players is incredibly rewarding.
What excites me most is knowing that players are about to experience the results of countless decisions, innovations, and refinements that were made with authenticity and fun in mind. The team poured an enormous amount of passion into UFC 6, and we're excited to see how the community responds once they step into the Octagon.
How does EA SPORTS UFC 6 evolve the franchise for both longtime players and newcomers stepping into the Octagon for the first time?
Our goal with UFC 6 was to deepen the authenticity without making it less accessible.
For longtime players, we've delivered meaningful improvements to fighter movement, striking, presentation, and overall gameplay depth. The experience feels closer than ever to what fans see on UFC fight nights.
For newcomers, we focused on making the game easier to understand and more intuitive to learn. Whether you're a hardcore MMA fan or picking up a UFC game for the first time, UFC 6 provides clearer feedback, better onboarding, and gameplay systems, like Time Dilation and Flow State, that reward learning while remaining approachable.
The result is a game that offers greater depth for experienced players while providing a more welcoming entry point for newcomers.
What were the biggest gameplay improvements the team focused on for UFC 6?
One of our biggest areas of focus was making striking feel faster, more responsive, and more intuitive than ever before.
We spent a lot of time reworking our combination system, introducing all-new combination packages and significantly expanding the number of combinations available to fighters by default. Players can now chain together longer and more creative sequences, giving them greater freedom to express their own style and build attacks naturally.
At the same time, we focused heavily on controller responsiveness. As a player, there's nothing more frustrating than inputting a series of strikes and not getting the result you expected. We wanted the game to do a better job of translating player intent into action. The result is a striking system that feels more fluid and predictable, where players can confidently throw combinations knowing the fighter will respond the way they expect.
But striking isn't just faster, it's also far more dangerous.
With Frostbite Physics and our Real-Time Contact technology, every exchange carries more risk. Damage has been completely reworked, counters are significantly more impactful, and getting caught clean can change the course of a fight instantly. Players can't simply stand in the pocket and trade shots without consequences. Positioning, timing, and defensive awareness matter more than ever because one well-timed counter can completely shift momentum.
Movement was another major area of investment. We overhauled the movement system to better reflect the physical differences between athletes, with factors like reach, movement speed, and distance management playing a much larger role in gameplay. Different fighters now control space in different ways, creating more meaningful strategic decisions around range, pressure, and footwork.
When you put all of these improvements together, the game feels fundamentally different. Striking is faster and more responsive, movement is more strategic, and every exchange carries a level of danger that more closely reflects the reality of mixed martial arts.
One exciting innovation in UFC 6 is the use of Markerless Motion Capture technology. Can you explain what that technology is and how it helped create more lifelike fighter movement and animations?
Markerless Motion Capture is one of the most exciting technologies we've introduced because it allows us to capture athlete performances in a much more natural and authentic way.
Rather than relying on traditional motion capture suits covered in markers, we use advanced camera and computer technology to record and analyze movement directly from the fighters. That gives us the ability to capture athletes performing naturally while preserving the details that make them unique.
A huge part of that process happens through our partnership with UFC. Throughout development, our team regularly traveled to Las Vegas and worked directly with athletes at the Meta Apex during fight week. As fighters moved through media interviews and appearances, many would stop by our capture space to spend time with the team.
What made those sessions special is that we were often capturing athletes at the peak of their fitness, in one of the most intense moments of their lives, and most of the time, they put on a show for us.
Fighters understand that we're trying to recreate them as accurately as possible, so they'll throw signature combinations, demonstrate unique movement patterns, and help us capture the details that fans immediately recognize. Those performances became the foundation for many of the fighter-specific animations and movement improvements players will see throughout UFC 6.
The result is a roster that feels more authentic because the movement is rooted in the actual athletes themselves, so if you don't like one of the animations, you can take that up directly with the fighter. :)
Community feedback has always been important for the franchise. What player feedback had the biggest influence on UFC 6?
The biggest piece of feedback we heard from the community was that they wanted more control over the outcome of a fight.
Players wanted the game to feel more responsive. They wanted their fighters to react the way they expected when entering combinations. They wanted movement to feel more deliberate and strategic. And they wanted every exchange to feel meaningful, where smart decisions and good timing are rewarded.
That feedback had a huge influence on UFC 6.
A lot of our gameplay improvements stem from a simple question: how do we better connect player intent to what's happening on screen? Whether it was our striking overhaul, expanded combination system, movement updates, or improvements to damage and counters, the goal was to make players feel more connected to their fighter and more responsible for both their successes and mistakes.
We also consistently heard from players that they wanted fighters to feel more distinct from one another. UFC is a sport built around unique styles, personalities, and approaches to combat, and the community wanted those differences to be reflected more clearly in gameplay. That feedback influenced many of our decisions around movement, striking, fighter-specific behaviors, and overall fight dynamics.
What's great about the EA SPORTS UFC community is that they're incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about the sport. They don't just tell us what they like or dislike; they often explain why. Those conversations help us identify opportunities to improve the experience and make better decisions as developers.
At the end of the day, UFC 6 is the result of years of listening, testing, and learning from our players. Many of the changes you'll feel the moment you pick up the controller can be traced back to feedback we've received from the community over multiple releases.
What excites you most about finally getting UFC 6 into players' hands?
The most exciting part for me is seeing how players make the game their own.
As developers, we spend years building systems, testing features, and imagining how people might play. But players always surprise us, especially UFC players. They discover strategies we never expected, create memorable viral moments, and find new ways to engage with the game that we couldn't have predicted during development.
