Ramirez Claims a People’s Victory in Noem’s Removal, Demands Accountability for Her Violations of Rule of Law and the Constitution

Washington, DC -Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) released the following statement after Trump announced that Kristi Noem will be removed from her role as Secretary of DHS:

"Good riddance. I called for Noem's resignation in April 2025. I was the first to call for her impeachment in September. In December, I requested that the House Committee on Judiciary conduct a complete investigation into Secretary Noem's unlawful and potentially impeachable actions. And just last week, I met with Noem face-to-face to reiterate that she must resign or face removal from office. Her removal is long overdue.

All credit for the end of her tenure as Secretary of DHS belongs to the people in the streets who have been mobilizing, documenting, and litigating every violation of our rights perpetrated under Noem's leadership. Anyone who seeks appointment to implement Trump's unlawful, inhumane campaign of terror should expect the same level of accountability and scrutiny.

But Noem's removal is not sufficient. She has no place in public office. She has misused resources appropriated by Congress and engaged in unethical behavior, made false and misleading statements to Congress and to the press, and undermined the separation of powers and disregarded the role of Congress and the Courts. Under her leadership, families have been torn apart and precious lives have been lost. She must be impeached, and the American people must have justice and accountability.

Regardless of whichever figurehead Trump attempts to appoint as the next Secretary of DHS, we know the world we are building: one where no billionaires profit from our pain, where we abolish ICE and end detention, and we dismantle DHS. The power of the people is ALWAYS greater than the weapons they would wield against us, including DHS. Today and everyday, all power to the people."
