Equality California Endorses Scott Wiener in CA-11

SAN FRANCISCO -Equality California, the nation's largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, announced the endorsement of Scott Wiener to succeed outgoing Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi in California's 11th Congressional District. Equality California Executive Director Tony Hoangreleased the following statement:

"From his earliest days in politics as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Scott Wiener has consistently proved himself a pragmatic and proactive lawmaker. When it comes to defending and advancing the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, Scott Wiener is one of the most effective legislators in the country.

Since his first election to the California Senate in 2016, Senator Scott Wiener has championed legislation to expand access to life-saving medications like PrEP, strengthen nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ seniors, and ensure that LGBTQ+ foster youth are placed in supportive, affirming homes.

Senator Wiener has always been a trailblazer in protecting members of the transgender community. He authored SB 107 - the first law in the nation to establish California as a "refuge state" for transgender youth and their families seeking medically necessary healthcare they cannot access in their home states. During this past legislative session, he led on two additional bills to strengthen the privacy and confidentiality of medical and legal records for transgender people. We have no doubt he will bring this same leadership and advocacy to the halls of Congress.

In 2026, San Francisco - one of the nation's most inclusive cities, with one of the largest LGBTQ+ populations - will finally have the opportunity to elect an openly LGBTQ+ Congressperson to represent them in Washington, D.C for the first time.
