Employee Spotlight On
Molly Powell
Assistant Controller
What is your job and what do you like most about it?
I work in the Accounting Department as the Assistant Controller. I joined Dairyland in October 2024, and during my time here, I've had the privilege of holding several different roles within the department. When I first started, I accepted a position that was a bit below my experience level because I thought I wanted to take a step back professionally. However, I quickly realized that I feel most fulfilled when I'm being challenged and learning new things. I'm incredibly grateful to the team at Dairyland for believing in me and giving me the opportunities to grow, take on new challenges, and advance my career. Their support has made a world of difference, and it's something I truly value.
What led you to work in this field?
I discovered my love for accounting during my first accounting course at the University of Minnesota. I've always enjoyed solving puzzles, and accounting feels like one big puzzle to me-when you have all the pieces (or in this case, the right information), everything should fit perfectly. I realize I'm leaning into some accountant stereotypes here, but I fully embrace my inner nerd!
Why do you think Dairyland is a great place to work?
The culture at Dairyland is one of my favorite things about working here. I really enjoy collaborating with other departments and tapping into the expertise of my colleagues.
What about life outside work? Tell us about your favorite things.
My husband, Dustin, and I have three kids-Parker (15), Bennett (8), and Piper (6). Our lives are busy, as all three kids are very involved in sports. Most of our time outside of work is spent running to practices, attending games, or supporting their athletic pursuits. It's so rewarding to watch them work hard, chase their goals, and do what they love.
What's the best piece of advice you've been given? Favorite quote?
"You can often change your circumstances by changing your attitude." - Eleanor Roosevelt.
This quote has always resonated with me because I truly believe that attitude is everything. Life throws plenty of challenges our way, so I try to focus on overcoming obstacles rather than creating more by letting a negative mindset get in the way.
Favorite book?
I love to read and enjoy a variety of genres, but historical fiction is definitely my favorite. I really like stories that not only provide entertainment but also teach me something new about history. It's the perfect mix of learning and relaxation.
What food could you not live without?
I'm a pretty picky eater. I have a hard time with the texture of some foods, so I don't eat any fruit and only a few vegetables. Because of that, I don't think I could survive without the classic meat, potatoes...and pizza. They're my go-to comfort foods!
