Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva held a meeting with Florian Hahn, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, following yesterday's phone call between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Ihor Zhovkva thanked Germany for its leadership in providing assistance to our country since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion.
The key topic of the meeting was Ukraine's full membership in the European Union. Ihor Zhovkva expressed gratitude to Germany for its strong support of our country's movement towards EU membership and briefed the German side on the implementation of the Association Agreement and the reforms required for accession.
"Ukraine is already fully technically prepared and is counting on the opening of the first negotiation cluster, along with all the remaining clusters, in the near future. It is now crucial to unblock this process. Our country has fulfilled 75% of the Association Agreement and will definitely become a full member of the EU," Ihor Zhovkva stressed.
The discussion also focused on the implementation of agreements reached between the leaders of Ukraine and Germany during their meeting in Berlin last week. Work is ongoing on the signing of a special security partnership agreement - a Drone Deal. Ihor Zhovkva emphasized that Ukraine is interested in concluding this agreement as soon as possible and in developing security cooperation with Germany.
The sides also exchanged views on negotiations aimed at achieving peace and on the importance of increasing pressure on Russia.
"We are grateful to Germany for all its efforts in bringing lasting peace to Ukraine. No one wants peace more than Ukraine. But Russia does not want to stop. That is why strengthening pressure on the aggressor state by all our partners remains critical," the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office concluded.
