Foreign Secretary Roberto Velasco Álvarez traveled to Ottawa, Canada, to follow up on the implementation of the Mexico-Canada Action Plan 2025-2028 and continue the high-level political dialogue between the two countries.
During the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Anita Anand, both officials highlighted the results achieved in trade and investment, health, security, transportation, manufacturing, and environmental protection. They also agreed to find new areas of collaboration to advance development, competitiveness, shared prosperity, and the wellbeing of both nations.
The two also exchanged views on regional and international matters of mutual interest and underscored the importance of dialogue and multilateral cooperation.
Secretary Velasco also had lunch with Minister Anand; Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangaree; Minister of Transport Steven MacKinnon; and Chief USMCA Negotiator Janice Charette, with whom he discussed shared priorities and next steps in the bilateral relationship.
He later met with Marc-André Blanchard, Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Mark Carney. The two discussed the excellent state of the diplomatic relationship, reviewed the strong economic cooperation between the two countries, and exchanged views on how to work together in the industries of the future, such as artificial intelligence.
The visit reaffirmed Mexico and Canada's commitment to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, based on mutual respect, trust, and a shared vision of prosperity.
Secretary Velasco was accompanied by Undersecretary for North America Cristina Planter Riebeling, Mexico's Ambassador to Canada Carlos Joaquín González, Communications Director General Omar Wong Camarillo, and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Mexican Embassy in Canada Cristina Oropeza.
