D.A. Bragg Announces Prison Sentence Of Ronnie Perry For Pushing Man Onto Tracks At Lower Manhattan Station

July 8, 2026

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the prison sentence of RONNIE PERRY, 50, to 9 years in state prison for assaulting and pushing a 39-year-old man onto the subway tracks at the W 4 St-Washington Square subway station in Greenwich Village in June 2024. On January 29, 2026, a New York State Supreme Court jury found PERRY guilty of one count each of Attempted Assault in the First Degree and Assault in the Second Degree.

"Pushing a commuter onto the subway tracks is an extraordinarily dangerous and reckless act that directly puts that person in harm's way," said District Attorney Bragg. "As a jury found, Ronnie Perry committed a horrific and unprovoked attack that caused significant harm to the victim, and I am thankful to the fellow New Yorkers who acted quickly to return him to safety. Since I took office in 2022, transit crime has declined 12% year-to-date in Manhattan, and my office remains committed to prosecuting violence to keep our public transportation system safe."

As proven at trial, on June 11, 2024, minutes before the attack, PERRY argued with his girlfriend at the turnstiles inside the W 4 St-Washington Square subway station, near West 4th Street and Sixth Avenue. He swiped into the station ahead of her and walked toward the southbound A/C/E train platform, then down the stairs toward the mezzanine level of the station. As PERRY moved through the station, the 39-year-old man, who was on his way home from work, proceeded to the turnstiles. At the turnstiles, PERRY's girlfriend yelled at the man, and both eventually swiped into the station, heading to the A/C/E train platform, where she pointed the man out to PERRY.

At approximately 3:15 p.m., as the man approached the stairs to the mezzanine, PERRY approached and punched him in the face before pushing him onto the subway tracks. Good Samaritans helped pull the victim off the tracks before any train could enter the station. He suffered lacerations, bruising and bleeding to his face and legs.

PERRY fled to the southbound F train platform where he boarded a departing train. While on the train, PERRY changed his clothing, removing his shirt. He exited the train at the 2nd Avenue station in the East Village, near 2nd Avenue and Houston Street.

On July 5, 2024, PERRY surrendered himself to the NYPD and was arrested.

Assistant D.A.s Maureen Duda and Max Kennedy handled the prosecution of this case, under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Erin Tierney (Chief of Trial Bureau 30) and Executive D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division). Paralegals Caroline Schwanewede, Louis Barber and Zoe Wittenwyler provided invaluable assistance in this case.

D.A. Bragg thanked Manhattan Transit Robbery Squad and the Transit Division, especially Detective Christopher Roca.
