Temporary Road Closure Scheduled at Forks of the River WMA

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is temporarily closing the access road leading into the Forks of the River Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and the Will Skelton Greenway beginning at sunset on Sunday, Aug. 16. This closure is necessary to repair several potholes and reinforce the roadway, which has experienced heavy year-round use.

Repairs will extend from the end of the asphalt on McClure Lane to the adjacent parking lot. To ensure the safety of the public and work crews, no traffic of any kind-motor vehicles, bicycles, or foot travel-will be permitted beyond the road closure sign until the project is completed.

Roadwork is scheduled to take place the week of August 17 and is expected to be finished by Thursday, Aug. 20. TWRA will also be coordinating with the City of Knoxville Highway Department for additional assistance due to the high volume of public access at this location.

TWRA apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. These improvements will help provide a safer and longer-lasting roadway for sportsmen and women using the WMA as well as users of the Will Skelton Greenway.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is responsible for protecting, managing, and conserving fish and wildlife species for the benefit of Tennesseans and visitors. The Agency also maintains public safety through law enforcement and safety education on waterways.
