BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Hansen Musical Arts Series will hold special community events and programming with Silkroad Ensemble featuring Rhiannon Giddens on Sunday, March 8, and Monday, March 9, ahead of its sold-out performance on Tuesday, March 10, at Moore Musical Arts Center.
On March 8, Silkroad Ensemble will hold a free open rehearsal from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Kobacker Hall at Moore Musical Arts Center. Later that day, ensemble musicians Karen Ouzounian and Mazz Swift will present a free youth program and discussion for K-8 students and their families starting at 3 p.m. at the Wood County District Public Library in downtown Bowling Green.
On March 9, the ensemble will host a free discussion led by Giddens and a community jam starting at 7:30 p.m. in Bryan Recital Hall at Moore Musical Arts Center, where the public is invited to bring their instruments and voices to explore new rhythms and sounds.
Created in 1998 by celebrated cellist Yo-Yo Ma, the Silkroad Ensemble is a collective of world-class artists who create music that engages difference, sparking cultural collaboration and passion-driven learning. As part of their latest tour, Sanctuary: The Power of Resonance and Ritual, Giddens and the ensemble explore how music can help us make sense of our world, process loss, navigate environmental and social changes, and rebuild community through shared musical experience.
The ensemble's stop at BGSU is made possible through the Dorothy E. and DuWayne H. Hansen Musical Arts Series Fund, which was established in 1996 to bring artists to campus to share their talents with the learning and greater community.
