WORK2025 conference organised in August 2025

Already seventh multidisciplinary, international WORK2025 conference on work and working life research is organised in hybrid format on 20-22 August 2025 by Turku Centre for Labour Studies (TCLS). WORK2025 offers 18 exciting research streams, several keynotes, and breaks in between the sessions to share knowledge, research results, and to discuss new directions in research. The theme of the conference, Work in the era of unruly AI, highlights some of the most significant recent changes in working life.

AI is often portrayed through various optimistic and pessimistic versions and visions of techno-determinism. In these narratives, AI, in its manifold embodiments, is considered as the supreme shaper of work, economy and other human realities. As social scientists, we recognize these depictions often as simplified representations of the complex and hard-to-capture interactions between technological, economic, social, and cultural realities.

Undoubtedly, AI brings with it unprecedented qualitative shifts of great consequence, along with the obvious challenges of defining what AI truly is and where it is headed. WORK2025 will explore the "unruliness" of AI in contemporary life.

WORK2025 calls upon papers, posters and presentations to address the main theme and various issues related to work and working life. WORK2025 welcomes papers from a wide variety of interdisciplinary, empirical and theoretical perspectives.

Call for abstracts is open on conference website until 20 February 2025.

Welcome!
