Passport and the Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation Donate $15,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 20, 2024 - The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation ("MolinaCares"), in collaboration with Passport by Molina Healthcare ("Passport"), presented a $15,000 check to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana. The donation will provide scholarships for children to participate in the program which includes activities like trips to sport events, museums, and more. One-on-one mentoring has shown to have a positive impact on youth behavior, health, and academics.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters program supports kids ages 6 to 17 by pairing them with an older mentor. "Bigs" and "Littles" get together 2-3 times each month to have fun, play games, do homework, or just talk. In 2022, over 600 youth participated. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana data show 99% of Littles avoided the juvenile justice system, 96% graduated on time, and 86% reported stable or improved mental well-being.

A recent study on mentoring showed a correlation between mentoring during childhood and stronger mental health. It also found correlations between mentoring and upward mobility for low-income youth. The study showed that more youth need access to mentors than ever before, despite an increase in youth mentoring programs like Big Brothers Big Sisters. Children participating in these programs are less likely to suffer from severe anxiety or depression and more likely to make healthier choices.
