WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper released the following statement on the recent announcement that the Broncos selected Burnham Yard in Denver as the site for their new stadium.
"Colorado is Broncos country. A new Broncos' stadium in Burnham Yards will deliver a world class experience for fans and drive economic growth in the community - all without any new taxes."
It had been reported that the Broncos were considering new stadium locations as their 30-year lease for their current stadium, Empower Field at Mile High, expires in 2031. In their announcement, the Broncos, the city of Denver, and the state of Colorado highlighted that their plans would not include new tax dollars to develop the former rail-yard and build the new stadium.
Hickenlooper is a long-time Broncos fan and got his start in Denver politics in 2000 as a small business owner organizing the fight to preserve the Mile High name for the stadium.
