On 13 June, H.E. Yan Jiarong, Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas, was invited to attend the 2026 Disability Icon Awards Ceremony in The Bahamas and joined Mrs. Ann Marie Davis, wife of the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, the Hon. Barbara Cartwright, newly appointed Minister of Social Services, the Hon. Zane Lightbourne, Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources, and the Hon. Bacchus Rolle, Minister of State for Social Services, in presenting awards to the honorees.
Ambassador Yan commended the award honorees for their perseverance, resilience and dedication. She stressed that China is a strong partner with The Bahamas in safeguarding the rights and interests of persons with disabilities. China stands ready to further deepen cooperation with The Bahamas within the frameworks of South-South cooperation and the Global Development Initiative.
Ambassador Yan also highlighted China's achievements especially the policies and measures adopted by the 14th Five-Year Plan as well as targets and tasks for the 15th Five-Year Plan period. She emphasized that the Chinese government remains committed to a people-centered approach to development and to promoting the comprehensive development for persons with disabilities.
