Changes to the lists of Statements of Principles, October 2025

The Statements of Principles (SOPs) are a tool to determine if an injury, illness or death is service-related.

On 23 October, 24 replacement Statements of Principles, two revocations without replacement, and three Minor Amendment Statements of Principles come into force in New Zealand.

Replacement SOPs

  • adjustment disorder
  • analgesic nephropathy
  • benign neoplasm of the eye and adnexa
  • cervical dystonia (spasmodic torticollis) [Name has changed from spasmodic torticollis]
  • cut, stab, abrasion and laceration
  • discoid lupus erythematosus
  • diverticular disease of the colon
  • sarcoidosis
  • Scheuermann's disease (kyphosis) [Name has changed from Scheuermann's disease]
  • spondylolisthesis and spondylolysis
  • suicide and attempted suicide
  • systemic lupus erythematosus.

Revocations without replacement

  • presbyopia.

Minor amendment SOPs

Reasonable Hypothesis and Balance of Probabilities versions of:

  • cardiomyopathy.

Balance of Probabilities version only of:

  • systemic lupus erythematosus.
